The crew on the Goa-Bangalore flight danced to Bollywood hit Balam Pichkari at 35,000ft to celebrate the Hindu festival of Holi.
But airline SpiceJet has been approached by the Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGCA) after the video went viral on YouTube.
The DGCA stated: “Cabin crew acts had drawn the attention of other crew on duty, thus reducing their preparedness/alertness.
“The frequent movement of the dancing crew may have affected the aircraft's centre of gravity during flight and created turbulence.
“Passengers dancing in the aisle creates an unruly environment.”
The stewards and stewardesses can be seen performing the 2.5minute routine – which was apparently professionally choreographed – as a pilot films in the background.
A spokesman for SpiceJet said everything was under control and that they had even put on extra staff.
They said: “The cockpit was manned at all time as per DGCA regulations that govern the situation when one pilot is outside for example to use the lavatory.
“The dance was professionally choreographed and was Holi delight for passengers much like it is done by several airlines around the world to celebrate a special occasion.”
Holi is the Hind spring festival of colours and love and is celebrated across India.
