It's a SA 342M, presumably seen in Saudi Arabia before Desert Storm.

Welcome back Zis! This must have been a very long trip that you went on!

Interesting that you share a Corvette because LFH's owner also has one of these.

In October 1973 this Gazelle was fitted with a wing and made it's first test flight. This experimental Gazelle aimed to study the behavior of the helicopter at high speeds and high load factors especially in low altitude tactical flight. At the beginning of the 70's, preliminary studies for the future attack helicopter intended for the French Aviation Légère de l'Armée de Terre led Aerospatiale and the French DGA to launch the realization of a prototype derived from the Gazelle helicopter equipped with a wing. However, auto-rotation behavior was considered as a sufficient obstacle to not continue the experiment.

This particular Gazelle had a busy life, because without its wing it was used for many studies including the evaluation of a new concept of main rotor (Biflex and Triflex) to test the aerodynamics at high speeds as well as vibration damping.
