Interestingly it looks as if her tailpipe has been painted. I am wondering if this is in fact so, and how this paint handles the exhaust heat?

Concerning 565, she seems to be one of only a handful of civilian Gazelles which, since the time of her manufacture (1974), has never changed registration. Does anyone know a little about her history, was she part of the batch distributed by Vought in America?

This is also the same craft that GazEngineer said was his favourite in terms of colours (in her present scheme), but since 2013 she seems to have come off the US register. Does anyone know what has happened to this craft and where she is now?

Of course one cannot mention China and the word 'flung' without recalling my late godfather's quip which he would roll-out most times China came up in conversation. His assertion centred around the existence of the preposterously named 'Hu Flung Dung Last' restaurant, about which, even as a youngster, I was always deeply sceptical!

Excel Technical Consulting have a requirement for experienced Gazelle Engineers on a 6 month contract based in the UK starting within the next 4 weeks.

Carrying out both daily checks and heavier maintenance on the aircraft, you will be part of a team supplying high quality maintenance to support our clients operations with the Gazelle. Recent experience on type would be ideal, but we will consider you if you have a good working knowledge of the aircraft.

Work will be Monday to Friday, 45 hours per week, paid at a competitive rate. As this is in the UK - there will be no allowance for travel or accommodation - so please bear this in mind before applying.

Visit by Ed and Lorraine Tercier

Last Saturday on 29th July, I received Ed and Lorraine Tercier here in Belgium!

I picked them up in Zeebrugge and flew them over the harbour and also over the city of Ghent.

I saw tears in their eyes after seeing their 'baby' after so many years. Imagine, they owned this helicopter for 33 years!

Last time they saw C-GDUG (now N341AS of course) was in 2006. Ed owned a H500 before this Gazelle.

Are those skids extended in height?

Indeed, 507 is wearing (along with the other KAF Gaz) high skid gear.

The Lebanese and Syrian Air Forces also tend to fly their Gazelles on high skids.

One of our members has been looking for a set of (used) high skids, but, they are not always easy to come by.

The above craft has an 'X' on the nose, but as I am not conversant with the UK's military letter markings I cannot say whether this designation would have been allocated to a single aircraft or to several. What I can say is that there was an SA341D (RAF) with an 'X' designation and which flew as ZA803 (WA1793) but I am not certain whether this is the craft shown above although I would say that it is quite likely given that this follows in sequence (in every respect) from ZA802 in the top photo).

SCOTTISH GAZELLES

With the recent sale of G-OGAZ to MW Helicopters it now seems that Scotland may soon have no airworthy Gazelles.... G-OGEO is now showing as a candidate for a change of owner.

The only other Gazelle that could be in Scotland is also in doubt. This one was G-CBZL until its accident near Dumfries. Anyone know where this Gazelle is currently stored ?

Perhaps one day when you have some time available you could drive over to Cauldhame Farm and ask whether it would be possible to take a shot of G-OGEO while at the same time inviting her owner to join Aviafora.

Will do. Have his number and have spoken to him before... I'm not sure if his Gazelle is still down at MW for maintenance though. I am also planning a trip to London in September and will try to visit Stapleford Tawney for some Gazelles.

SA341/2 Torquemeter


The torquemeter is an unique instrument but so common at the helicopters.As the word say it measures the torque.Torque between main rotor and engine.It is one of the most important instruments.So here it is at the test board attached .


Then checking the zero point with the test device, it seems ok so far.


There you see the fixed zero point ad device prior the testing.

From the both sides of torque indicator there are holes where you can adjust the tolerance at 0% and 100%.


In case of using older version of device there are some tolerances to be inputed so this is the nearly fair good readings of maximum torque at SA342.


This is the reading at 50%


How to connect the cables to Gazelle instalation.

XB, please could you explain the square hole on the underbelly of this Serbian Gaz? Grazie.

All Gazelles have this square hole, its the chute hole. At the rear pax seats, there is a latch that you can open at their feet and you can drop things through that hole.
