Hear how the white crosses painted on 656 Squadron's aircraft to distinguish them from the Rhodesian Airforce, arguably acted as a good target to aim at during 'Operation Agila'.
This lecture is essentially about a Scout flight, but it is possible there may also be some references to the Gazelle.
Watch the lecture by Bob Thorpe at 7pm on Monday 9th November. Click the link below for further info.
I cannot remember when G-CDXE was used but G-GAZZ also featured on Top Gear when it was challenged to race a Porsche 911 GT3 !
One other memorable helicopter was used on Top Gear Korea, an AH-1, and it was captured on film when it crashed in the Arizona Desert ! You can see the clip here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EsoWpTO2qg

'237' doesn't appear quite as frequently as '241' in the photo record, so its always nice to receive new shots of this bird. I landed with a 206 next to '237' on 'The Inis' (Inishvickillane Island) the same year this photo was taken.

Slope Landing Flashback

Not so much as a slope landing .. as landing on a slope! (The difference being that Patrick managed to place the skids on level ground).

SA 342M cn3474/CXN, belonging to the 1er RHC but allocated to the RHC Daguet in Saudi Arabia, crashed on 5 april 1991 in Saudi Arabia, due to an engine surge on take off. The crew (1er RHC as well) escaped unhurt but the Gazelle was a complete loss, later used as a ground instruction airframe in Bourges. This machine was the third SA 342M from the batch produced for the ALAT, having been originally delivered on the 10 april 1980.

Zis, was this a 342J at the time of this photo or was it converted later on?

Helipix, just so that you are aware, International Air Services are a trust company.
Hi, was looking at Instagram and this showed up today. AMP 1:48 Gazelle. Hope we can see it one day, with proper parts for various versions/countries/operations
Thanks Jakub for the heads up ! Have seen this on Scalemates website... they show it with 3 different sets of decals for German police and Yugoslav military. Just wonder when it will become available ?
They also show it with the full Fenestron rather than in the shots above where the bottom is missing ?
Thats an interesting find Zis, have read the story and it seems it has been seized by the local police authority along with a couple of R22s, which are alledged to have been involved in illegal flying.. It is still registered in the USA to GA Flying LLC and has an expiry date of 31.7.21 ?
This makes me wonder about N565F where that is and if it is also flying illegally, no registration has emerged for this one yet ?
Hi,
I found a new server (for me ) with various interesting pics.
Here I found new pic of Gulf Gazelle SA-342M 4067/82/BPD. Of interest is the name there "La Nec" and smth below it, probably ACCOUPRE/ACDOUPRE ? Can some French guys here tell me if the translation is really "The Ultimate" as Google translator did not give me the correct answer Thanks !
I don't know what 'la nec' stands for; this must be a private joke, understandable only for the guys who were there at that time. On the second line, apparently it is written AC DUPRE: this must refer to the rank and name of the aircraft commander, Adjutant Chef Dupré (adjutant chef being the equivalent of command sergeant major). Hope this helps!
Great, thanks for all the replies !!! Looks like Nec is from Latin Nec plus ultra = Nothing better. So I guess "The ultimate" could be the meaning And yes, A/C DUPRE is probably below that. Thanks !!!
